Google Chrome and E-Business Suite

There is a lot of press about google chrome which is an open source internet browser developed by google. A beta version is available for download here. I decided to test how E-Business Suite fairs on chrome. Here's my observations:

Self Service login worked fine as expected.

As soon as I launched forms, this error appeared:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /dev60cgi/oracle/apps/fnd/formsClient/FormsLauncher.class on this server.

In order to access this application, you must install the Oracle JInitiator Plugin version 1.3,1,29. To install this plugin, click here to download the oajinit.exe executable. Once the download is complete, double-click the oajinit.exe file to install the plugin. You will be prompted to restart your browser when the installation is complete

I'll have to locate an instance configured with Sun JRE plugin to check if google chrome works fine.

Please let me know. I tried that same thing last week and got the same error. :-(

Hi Divens,

Unless google chrome corners a big market share, Oracle will not work to certify it with E-Business Suite. Till then, we can't really use it with Google Chrome. I'll talk to Google Chrome developers and see if anything can be done in Chrome itself to allow E-Business Suite to work with it.

I have tried two versions of Jinitiator (1.1.8.25 and 1.3.1.22) on two separate Chrome 1.0.154.36 installations (yes, latest upgrade!), getting two different results. My organization runs both Oracle Clinical 4.5, which still requires Jinitiator 1.1.8, and several Oracle Forms 10g custom applications, which use Jinitiator 1.3.1.22. On one machine, I found a Chrome XML file in D:\Documents_and_Settings\"WIN user"\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome with all MIME types and associated plugins (no sign of Jinitiator there), on another I could not find that file, but, when I typed about:plugins in the address field I got the same list of all installed plugins as Firefox (both Jinitiator MIME types showed there)...
On the latter machine, Jinitiator 1.1.8.25 comes up fine (and yes, I do have JDK 1.6 u10 installed and catching all Java requests from Forms 10g applications). On the first machine, I can't get any Jinitiator to run. I am thinking of renaming that XML file to see if Chrome gets the plugin info from Firefox.... If you are interested, I'll keep you posted.

Chrome works with Oracle 11.5.10.CU2 now I have just cloned a new environment to implement JRE as oracle is desupporting JInitiator 1.3 by end of July 31, 2009. I applied the Patch Applications 11i interoperability patch 6863618 for JRE Native plug-in see Metalink Doc Id 290807.1 and run successfully the postinstall steps.
After restarting the application IE7 worked fine then decided to taste Chrome. The log on goes fine but while accessing the forms I was hit with ERROR
Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /dev60cgi/oracle/apps/fnd/formsClient/FormsLauncher.class on this server.
I first located the FormsLauncher.class and decided to change the permissions as below
applprod@gvaora3:$COMMON_TOP/java/oracle/apps/fnd/formsClient
applprod@gvaora3 $ chmod 755 FormsLauncher.class

Forms fired up correctly with Chrome so you guys can now enjoy chrome

Any idea why IE and Firefox works but Chrome doesn't? Wouldn't they access the same file to launch the java app?

I'm pretty sure our DBAs will question why they need to change the permissions on this file when its working fine for the "standard" users the way it is.
